What you'll learn

• Nationality with người + country
  Put người before a country name to say someone's nationality. It literally means 'a person of [country]'.
  Tôi là người Việt Nam. : I am Vietnamese.
• Languages with tiếng + country
  Put tiếng before a country or region name to name its language. It works the same way as người.
  Tôi học tiếng Việt. : I am studying Vietnamese.
• Asking someone's country: người nước nào?
  Use 'là người nước nào?' to ask which country someone is from. The word nào (which) follows the noun it asks about.
  Anh là người nước nào? : What country are you from?
• Asking 'who?' with ai
  Ai means 'who'. Unlike gì, it can start the question when it is the subject, or sit at the end when it is the object.
  Đây là ai? : Who is this?
